If you’re looking for your next summer read, you can never go wrong with a visit to a local, family-run bookstore! Nestled in the Central Village neighbourhood of downtown Chilliwack is a cozy new-and-used book shop called The Book Man, filled with titles for every kind of reader. They also sell fun gifts and merchandise and boast over a quarter-million titles in their inventory.
Explore this dreamy haven and you may be lucky enough to run into The Book Man’s resident pup, Nushi, and cat Beatrix (cozy reads AND pets?! What could be better?).
“Our building was built in 1890, and has had many incarnations of itself,” says owner Amber Price, “It was even a butcher at one point! We amalgamated two commercial addresses into one retail space to make our footprint larger and more spacious.”
The Book Man has been in historic Downtown Chilliwack for 30 years, since purchasing Erna’s Book Nook on Wellington Avenue three decades ago. The charming, small-town feel of Central Village makes it the perfect location for a reader’s paradise like The Book Man.
“We love our friendly community, our neighbouring merchants and the natural beauty of the area.” says Price, “I love knowing all my neighbours and being able to confidently recommend a spot to eat, or shop to my clients. Everyone Downtown is so passionate about what they do, and referring people to other shops in the area is always a pleasure!”
In addition to plenty of great titles, the shop also offers unique book-themed T-shirts, jewellery, handcrafted teas unique to The Book Man (Readers Rooibos and Book Man Blend), bookmarks, journals, book lights, greeting cards and book-themed coasters complement your reading experience.
What are you waiting for? Grab a “Book Nook” tote, say hello to Nushi and Beatrix, and snag your next favourite read(s).
